A Few Things That Make Me Smile

Once a group of us went to Disneyland. We had a magical time.

(Doesn't everyone have a magical time?)

I can do two or three days of Disneyland but I need something to break it up.

Sometimes that something is a little jaunt across the border into Mexico.

(If I can talk people into going with me.)

I talked all these people into going with me.

We had a lovely time...

Until that burro took a big bite out of Becca's shirt.

I still laugh at the memory.

My mom is a big fan of vitamins and the like.

Every morning she hands my dad a big handful of pills in various shapes and colors and he swallows them dutifully.

Because Baby Sister still lives at home she gets in on some of the pill action.

Sami, my two year old niece, watched Grandma pass out pills one morning.

"What's that?" she asked.

"Pills," Grandma said.

"You sick Grandma?"

"No Sami, we're not sick."

"What's that?" Sami asked again.

"Pills for Amanda," Grandma replied.

"Manda sick?" Sami asked.

"Sick in the head," is what my dad whispered under his breath.

A few minutes later when Amanda came into the kitchen Sami ran up to her and said,

"Manda's head sick?"

Dad laughed for a while.

Sometimes I complain that I don't ever get anything in the mail but bills.

I'm a big fan of the internet and emails, but there is nothing better than getting a letter in the mail.

Once after I had complained about it again I found a letter in the mailbox addressed to:

Noelle Platt

Store Manager

Big Red Barn

It was from:

Rachel Platt

Telephone Answering Specialist

Little White House

This is what was in the envelope:

And finally...

One day a million years ago I was in the car with my best friend from high school.

We were listening to The Dance by Garth Brooks.

The chorus started playing and Garth said, "I'da missed the dance..." or something like that.

Kim, my friend, sighed and said, "Poor Ida."

I looked at her and said, "What?"

"You heard him...Ida missed the dance. I wonder why she missed it."

Nearly 17 years later and whenever I hear that song I think 'Poor Ida.'

It came one the radio the other day and I texted Kim. All the text said was "Poor Ida."

I got a big LOL in response.

Sigh, I sure could use another trip to CA and Mexico. Good memories. I'm glad that I was able to go.

Just finished reading "The World According To Garp" where he describes how his son, for years and years, thought his father was describing the dangers of the Undertoe as the "UnderToad".

The poor child was always looking for the giant heavy scary toad under the water!!!

Stuff like that sticks with ya!

I had totally forgotten about fruit cocktail trees. I wonder where I could get one.
