Just For Today I Quit

My uncle watched us as Emily and I were playing outside while she was being fed and he said, "that's just sad."
He was referring to the fact that Emily was receiving her food through a feeding tube in her tummy.
He watched for another minute and said, "Noelle, I think God must really hate you."
Knowing my uncle and his personality he was probably 90% serious.
I picked Emily up and walked into my office where I sat down and just cried.

I know what he said is far from true but it's been an incredibly long, stressful week and I'm EXHAUSTED.

I'm going to go now and find a way to stop crying because what do you know, I forgot the waterproof mascara.
Rats.

Do me a favor?
Never say something like that to someone - it doesn't help.

Aw, some people really need to have their lips sewn shut. I am sorry you had to hear such awful thoughts. I am not religious, so I can't speak to what God thinks. I will just say that you have an amazing daughter who is just as phenomenal her mom. And you are both surrounded by a whole lot of love.

Oh, Noelle, that was so wrong. Hope you can get some rest this weekend.

God doesn't hate you. Emily needed a great mom, and God saw that you're the best mother she could ever have. That's how much God loves Emily, and that's how you can be sure that He'll give you all the strength you need. God knows your heart, and loves you so much that He trusted you to take care of Emily.

I had such a happy, cute pic in my head of you & Em playing. Then BAM....what the heck? Why did he ruin the pretty pic & more importantly your day? Elimy is darling & perfect & you are an amazing mama! That's the dang truth & anyone who says differently can come talk to my inner Brooklyness.

Wow. You don't need to publish my comment, but.....Wow.

People can be so thoughtless. Since Greg's lost both his legs, people constantly stare. They nudge the person next to them so they won't miss out on the opportunity to stare too.

It's all highly inappropriate.

I know our paths have only crossed once, on the happy streets of Disneyland, but I hope you know that I think about you and your sweet girl often. I won't tell you how much God loves you and how wrong your Uncle is. You already know that.

My heart broke when I read this post. Why can't people follow such a simple rule of, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all? I can see the immense unconditional love you have for Emily thru your blog. I don't believe God likes to give us hard trials, but that thru faith He will carry us thru those hardtimes and turn them into strengths. I hope your weekend gets better and that your husband returns home safely!

What a horrible thing to say. And a relative at that! God does not hate you - he gave you the beautiful sweet gift of Emily!
